Starting Hands in Limit Holdem

If you have been playing Limit Holdem for a while now, then you probably know that paired Aces or Aces with suited faces are the best starting hands. But what happens when you do not get the high hands at the beginning of the game?

That is the dilemma that a lot of players, new and old, face in Texas Holdem. Usually without the strong or premium Limit Holdem starting hands, they will fold.

The fact is that you will not always get the high hands in most games, but that does not mean you should fold automatically. With a good and sound knowledge of the game, you can play a variety of Limit Holdem starting hands. These hands include a pair of 8s, 7s, or a Jack with 8 or ten suited.

Other Limit Holdem starting hands you can play are suited 9,8, 8,7 KJ, QJ, Jack suited with ten and an Ace suited with any number or face. When you are dealt these kinds of combinations, you should however, face the fact that they are not the best hands, and therefore need some other elements to make it work.

Here any Limit Holdem strategy you have will depend a lot on the table position. If you are to the left of the dealer, then you have no choice but to fold, as the chances are high that the others have the high hand. Of course, if the table is very tight, then you can make a bet, particularly with a QJ or KJ.

If you are in the middle and several players have folded, then you can make a raise too, although with these Limit Holdem starting hands the ideal place to be in is that of the dealer, or next to last. By being the last you will be able to decide if you can go and raise.

If all goes well, you will be able to see the flop at little cost, and if you have an Ace then you can get the top pair and be back in contention.

Even the 88s can turn into a set, or even a full house, so it is important to know the combinations that you can get with these Limit Holdem starting hands. And even if you do lose, the fact that you played with these hands will make your opponents think of how you should be approached. Playing only top hands makes you predictable and results in low pots.

Knowledge of the value of Limit Holdem starting hands is simply too important to be ignored, and knowing what to play and when to play them is even more so. By knowing these facts, you will be able to handle any hand that comes your way.
