Poker Origin and its Development

Poker is a type of card game which is termed from the German word "pochen" which means to knock and to brag as bluff. Others stated that it came from the Irish word "Poca" which means pocket. Poker was also claimed that its origin and its name came from the French word "poque'. Although poker's origin has not been clearly stated, these influences made way to the development of the game poker.

In a standard poker play, players use five cards to show off after the time allotted for the players to arrange their cards. The dealer is responsible in shuffling cards and dealing cards to each player one at a time. The poker dealer can either deal it facing up or facing down, depending upon the variant of the poker. In casinos, the dealer uses each hand in handling cards and the so-called "white plastic disk", which is also known as button is rotated clockwise to indicate betting order among players.

In a poker game, some jargons as bluffing, showdown and "poker hand rankings" are used. Bluffing uses poker hand rankings and is one major feature of the game. Showdown on the other hand, is usually done when there are only two people or more than one player remains at the end of each betting round.

A poker hand ranking is the main feature of the game where the goal of the game depends on it. Poker hand rankings show how cards are being scored or given some points, what are the levels of the cards and how high the points of the cards are arrange in a single row. Poker is simply a card game where players bet on the power of cards and their combinations. Whoever has the most powerful card combination wins the game.

Poker is a widespread game of cards and the development of it took place in many places and even to different continents as America and Asia. During the American Civil War, innovations and developments were made including the addition of certain poker variants. Some of these variants are draw poker, the "five-card variant" known as stud poker, and lastly is the addition of "straight" variant. Other developments include "wild card", "low ball" and "split pot poker". Eventually, poker tournaments were also popular during the 21st century and the introduction of playing poker in the internet was achieved. One of the popular poker tournaments is the World Series of Poker.
